French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reaffirmed their commitment to building “open and decarbonized” economies, as well as promoting international cooperation on artificial intelligence during Macron’s visit to Ottawa.
Despite facing domestic challenges, the two leaders highlighted their strong working relationship and shared vision on multiple issues. Macron emphasized the alignment of their agendas, focusing on open economies and decarbonization.
They also announced strengthened defense partnership and support for Ukraine. Both leaders, known for their youthful and optimistic leadership styles, emphasized the strategic partnership between their two countries, particularly in the areas of French-language promotion and joint approaches to AI.
Macron’s visit included discussions on the revival of French language and culture in Canada, with a focus on Quebec, the only province with a French-speaking majority. Additionally, Macron highlighted the attractiveness of France to Canadian investors and addressed concerns about political instability and tax debates in France.
The visit concluded with a meeting with Premier Francois Legault in Montreal, where Macron continued to promote French-Canadian ties and economic opportunities.
