Hong Kong has raised the minimum wage for foreign domestic helpers by 2.5%, reaching HK$4,990 from the previous HK$4,870. The new rate applies to all new contracts signed on or after the announcement.
The decision was made after careful consideration of economic and labor market conditions, as well as employers’ affordability. Despite the wage increase, the food allowance for helpers remains unchanged at HK$1,236 per month.
Foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong have the option to receive free food from their employers or a food allowance. The government’s move aims to improve the working conditions and livelihoods of these essential workers.
