Governor of Upper Nile State Updates on Security, Healthcare, and Economic Situation

The Governor of Upper Nile State, James Odhok Oyai, recently provided updates on the current situation in the state. He mentioned that the security situation is relatively calm, with people resuming agricultural activities. Additionally, the medical staff at the Malakal Teaching Hospital, who went on strike over unpaid allowances, have returned to work.

Governor Oyai also discussed the challenges faced due to illegal checkpoints along the River Nile, resulting in limited transport activities. He mentioned recent efforts to address this issue through cooperation with Jonglei State and SSPDF leadership in Juba.

Regarding healthcare, Governor Oyai acknowledged the strike at the hospital and shared that the matter has been resolved with the staff resuming work. He also highlighted the economic challenges faced by the state, emphasizing the importance of agriculture as a means of sustenance and livelihood for the citizens.

The Governor’s visit to Jonglei State for transport cooperation was fruitful, resulting in the resumption of boat activities along the River Nile. Governor Oyai also addressed concerns about state officials spending time outside the state, implementing measures to ensure their presence and accountability.
