Controversy Surrounding Igweship Stool in Enu-Agu Autonomous Community, Enugu State
The people of the newly created Enu-Agu Autonomous Community in Enugu State are embroiled in a dispute over the recognition of Mr. Sylvester Nnaji as the traditional ruler. Supporters of Nnaji claim he meets all requirements for the Igweship stool, while protesters allege irregularities in his recognition.
Protesters, comprising men, women, and youths, have marched to the state House of Assembly and the Government House to demand the nullification of Nnaji’s recognition. They argue that the traditional selection process was not followed.
The controversy arose after the creation of the Enu-Agu Autonomous Community in May 2023. Community members are urging Governor Peter Mba to intervene and ensure justice and equity prevail in the selection of a traditional ruler.
The Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly has promised to address the issue for a peaceful resolution. The community hopes for a fair and transparent process to prevent further chaos.
