The Federal High Court in Abeokuta cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against undermining the judicial process ahead of the State Congress in Ogun State, in the case of *Folorunsho Akande and Ors. v. PDP and Ors.* Justice Abiodun Adeyemi emphasized the importance of preserving the party congress and member recognition within the law.
Due to disputes arising from previous congresses, two major factions have emerged in Ogun State, led by Ladi Adebutu and a coalition comprising Jimi Lawal, Abdulkadir Akinlade, and Sikirulai Ogundele. Parallel congresses were held at the ward and local government levels, leading to conflicting executive positions.
The Court has adjourned the matter until October 15, 2024, for further hearings. The controversies stem from the refusal of one faction to authenticate registers with the party’s national leadership, causing a split in the congress outcomes.
As the legal process unfolds, the Court has urged all parties to respect the integrity of the judicial system and refrain from actions that could disrupt the resolution of the matter.
