Abuja court grants whistleblower N5m bail: The Guardian Nigeria News

Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Bristol Tamunobifiri, also known as PIDOM, in the sum of N5 million and one surety in like sum. The bail conditions include the surety showing evidence of means, residency within the court’s jurisdiction, and proof of tax clearance for the past three years. Additionally, the surety must deposit an international passport, two passport-sized photographs, and a mobile number with the Registrar of the Court.

PIDOM was arraigned on nine counts, including money laundering, cybercrime, and unlawfully obtaining, retaining, and disseminating classified documents. Known for his online activism, PIDOM pleaded not guilty to all charges. Despite the prosecution’s opposition to bail, Justice Nwite adjourned the ruling on the bail application until September 23 and ordered PIDOM to be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre.

The suit accuses PIDOM of mobilizing support for the #EndBadGovernance protest and making false money laundering allegations against President Bola Tinubu. He is also charged with violating the Official Secrets Act of 1962. The prosecution claims PIDOM spread false information and tampered with evidence by attempting to destroy his phone when arrested.
