37 children among 46 drown in India’s religious festival

Authorities are still searching for bodies, and the death toll is expected to increase. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has offered $400,000 in compensation to the victims’ families, expressing his condolences and support.

Local reports attribute the increase in water levels in rivers and ponds to heavy rains in the region, contributing to the tragic incidents during the festival.
