Trinamool Congress Set to Lead Parliamentary Standing Committees
Trinamool Congress is poised to take charge of the Parliamentary Standing Committees on Chemicals and Fertilisers, as well as Commerce, following negotiations with the government. The party has nominated senior MP Kirti Azad to lead the Chemicals and Fertilisers panel, while Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen will head the Commerce panel.
The decision came after a discussion between Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha floor leader Derek O’Brien. Rijiju had previously accused the Trinamool of delaying the process by not providing names for the panels. However, Trinamool sources claim that they were not approached until the recent discussion with O’Brien.
In addition, Congress is set to lead four Standing Committees, with prominent members such as Shashi Tharoor and Digvijaya Singh heading panels on External Affairs and Education, respectively. Samajwadi Party has also chosen its Rajya Sabha floor leader to head a committee on Health.
The stage is set for the announcement of the formation of these crucial panels, shaping the future of parliamentary discussions on various key issues.
