Six Victims Freed from Bebeto Bus Ambush in South Sudan

The South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) announced on Wednesday that six victims of the Bebeto bus ambush were released by the attackers. The spokesperson, Maj Gen Lul Ruai Koang, revealed that the victims, including individuals from different nationalities, were robbed of all their belongings during the incident.

SSPDF condemned the attack on the civilian bus by the National Salvation Front (NAS) and emphasized the negative impact it had on victims from various countries. Koang called on the victims to seek justice through international and regional legal channels, highlighting the need to hold NAS accountable for targeting civilians.

The Counselor for Political Affairs at the Uganda Embassy, Anthony Kabugudho, expressed concern over NAS becoming a regional problem and stressed the importance of unity in addressing such threats. Kabugudho reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to supporting South Sudan in resolving security challenges on the Juba-Nimule road.

A victim, Swaib Miya, recounted the harrowing experience of the attack, where security officers on the bus were targeted before passengers were forced to disembark and robbed. Despite the ordeal, only 12 out of 20 captives were eventually freed.

NAS spokesperson, Suba Samuel Manase, denied his organization’s involvement in the bus attack, raising questions about the perpetrators of the violent incident.
