Sindh home minister: Umerkot doctor accused of blasphemy killed in ‘fake encounter’ in Pakistan.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar revealed the findings of an inquiry into the death of Dr. Shahnawaz Kunbhar, a doctor accused of blasphemy, by stating that the police had “staged the encounter” where he was shot dead in Mirpurkhas. The inquiry committee unanimously agreed that the Mirpurkhas police had orchestrated the killing and failed to provide a legal cover for it.

The report recommended that the deceased’s family file an FIR against the police officers involved in the incident. Minister Lanjar disclosed that Dr. Shahnawaz was killed in a “fake encounter” and announced the suspension of SSP Mirpurkhas, with the DIG being implicated in the case.

The inquiry report focused on the encounter itself, not the blasphemy accusations against the deceased. Minister Lanjar emphasized the need to wait for forensic evidence regarding the blasphemy allegations and reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.

The Minister highlighted that the PPP stands against extremism and ensures the protection of the rights of all individuals, emphasizing the importance of following the guidance of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in upholding justice and equity.
