Serbia recently sparked controversy by sending a letter to the Secretary General of the United Nations following remarks made by the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, at the UN General Assembly. The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide strongly criticized Serbia’s claims of being a peacemaker, highlighting past evidence from the International Criminal Court in The Hague which implicated Serbian and Croatian leaders in criminal activities during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
They commended Bećirović for accurately pointing out the role of Serbia in endangering BiH, specifically calling out President Aleksandar Vučić for perpetuating a double policy towards the country. The association urged Serbia to acknowledge and respect the judgments of international courts in order to engage in meaningful dialogue.
By directly addressing Serbia’s leadership and historical actions, the Association of Genocide Victims and Witnesses emphasized the importance of accountability and transparency in international relations, especially in the context of past atrocities. Their bold stance challenges Serbia to step up and move beyond past political games for the greater good of regional stability and reconciliation.
