Operation Safe Podlasie: Strengthening Poland’s Border Security
Operation Safe Podlasie, launched on August 1, 2024, is a crucial initiative supporting the Polish Border Guard in protecting the country’s eastern border. Despite challenges like ongoing flood recovery efforts, the Polish Armed Forces are fully dedicated to this operation. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz has emphasized the significance of interagency collaboration in ensuring national security and the well-being of personnel involved.
Rising Migration Pressures
With over 2,500 illegal border crossing attempts in September alone, the mounting pressure on Poland’s borders is evident. The total number of attempts in 2024, currently at 26,000, matches last year’s figures, emphasizing the ongoing challenge of border security.
Comprehensive Military Assistance
Approximately 17,000 soldiers, led by the 18th Mechanized Division, are actively supporting the Border Guard and Police in preventing illegal crossings. Apart from combat operations, the military is also involved in repairing roads and assisting local medical facilities in the region.
