Over 70,000 seek shelter in Lebanon, says minister

More than 70,000 people have sought refuge in shelters as Israel’s air campaign devastates Lebanon, with the actual number likely far higher due to alternative hideouts like family homes and hotels amidst the chaos.

The ongoing clashes between Israel and Hezbollah have displaced over 90,000 individuals within Lebanon, prompting UN chief António Guterres to express concerns about the country being “on the brink” and urging for immediate cessation of hostilities.

In a bid to avert a larger conflict, the US and its allies have proposed a 21-day ceasefire along the Israel-Lebanon border.

Despite talks of a potential ceasefire, Israel’s prime minister has instructed the military to intensify operations, signaling no immediate end to the violence.
