A top scientist, Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, has been named as the sole candidate to lead the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He has vowed to protect the institution’s academic freedoms in light of concerns surrounding national security legislation.
Professor Lo also expressed an interest in enhancing the university’s focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and supporting students with entrepreneurial ambitions.
In a meeting with students, staff, and alumni, Lo shared his vision for CUHK and discussed various topics like academic freedom, communication within the university, and talent recruitment.
Having been recommended as the only candidate by the search committee, Lo’s appointment is set to be considered by the governing council.
The engagement sessions held at CUHK’s Sha Tin campus highlighted the importance of maintaining open dialogue and fostering a supportive environment for all members of the university community.
