Iranian president: Hezbollah needs support to face Israel

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has called on the UN Security Council to take immediate action against Israel’s escalation in Lebanon. He expressed concern that Hezbollah cannot stand alone against Israel, which carried out its deadliest day of air strikes since 2006. Amid rising tensions, 558 people, including 50 children, have been killed in Israeli strikes in south and east Lebanon.

The Israeli military claimed to have hit about 1,600 Hezbollah targets, including militants, and continue to carry out more strikes. Iran has condemned the attacks and stands in solidarity with Lebanon and Palestine. The recent escalation follows sabotage attacks targeting Hezbollah, with Iranian media warning of the risk of all-out war.

Pezeshkian, speaking from New York for the annual UN General Assembly, accused Israel of warmongering and emphasized Iran’s commitment to peace. He stressed that Iran has not initiated a war in the last 100 years but will defend its security and territorial integrity if threatened.
