Hindu body embraces traditional prasad recipe for Vrindavan temples, rejects shop sweets

In a bid to restore faith in temple offerings, a local religious body in Mathura has decided to distribute “ancient Prasadam” made of fruits, flowers, panchmeva, cardamom seeds, and sugar candy. This initiative comes in the wake of the controversy over “adulterated” laddus at the Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh.

The Dharma Raksha Sangh national president, Saurabh Gaur, emphasized the need for reforms in the ‘prasadam’ system across temples in India. The organization aims to promote the traditional Hindu practice of offering and accepting pure, Satvik Prasadam.

Mahant Devanand Paramhans suggested including seasonal fruits as part of temple offerings, aligning with ancient customs. The organization is developing a blueprint for a ‘Satvik Bhog’ to ensure the authenticity and safety of offerings.

The move follows accusations of substandard ingredients and animal fat used in laddu preparation at the Tirupati Temple, leading to a political controversy between the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and the opposition. Naidu has initiated a Special Investigation Team to probe these claims, emphasizing the importance of maintaining purity in temple offerings.
