Delta to take legal action against doctors offering family planning to minors

Welcome to our blog post highlighting the recent warning from the Delta State Government regarding family planning services for underage girls. The State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Ohwovoriole Ekemejero SAN, emphasized the illegal nature of providing these services to minors without parental consent. Medical personnel caught doing so will face prosecution according to the law.

During the World Contraception Day event, key stakeholders emphasized the importance of allowing women to make informed choices about their reproductive health. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme, encouraged women to consider family planning for their benefit, while Dr Paul U. urged stakeholders to support funding for these services.

Dr. Jedidiah Sodje, a Senior Lecturer at UNIBEN, highlighted Nigeria’s maternal and child health challenges, advocating for increased access to family planning to reduce mortality rates. He emphasized the empowerment that family planning provides to women in planning their lives and securing healthier futures for their families.

World Contraception Day, observed on September 26th annually, aims to raise awareness about contraception and empower individuals to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health.
