ANC Tshwane authorized to oust DA’s Brink as mayor

The ANC in Tshwane has officially been given the green light to oust DA mayor Cilliers Brink through a motion of no confidence, a move set to take place on Thursday. This decision follows failed attempts by the ANC’s Gauteng leadership to convince the national leadership to form a coalition aimed at unseating the DA in the city.

Despite the lack of clarity on Brink’s replacement, the ANC plans to go ahead with the motion after negotiations with the DA collapsed. The ANC believes a government of local unity would better address community challenges in Tshwane and is likely to form a coalition with parties represented in the council, potentially including ActionSA.

The removal of Brink has sparked controversy, with DA members protesting and launching a petition against the motion. DA leaders like Solly Msimanga and Alan Winde have voiced support for Brink, highlighting his leadership skills and dedication. Meanwhile, Helen Zille has expressed concern over the potential negative impact on the government of national unity.
