AIIB president praises Uzbekistan for contribution to bank’s growth and regional cooperation.

SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan, September 26. Uzbekistan has played a crucial role in the success of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), according to Jin Liqun, AIIB President and Chairman of the Board of Directors. At a press conference, Liqun praised Uzbekistan as one of the founding members of AIIB, emphasizing its significant contribution to the bank’s growth on a global scale.

Liqun highlighted the transformative impact of the partnership between AIIB and Uzbekistan in driving sustainable development and enhancing regional stability. The collaboration between the two entities has led to positive changes, particularly in infrastructure, energy, and transportation sectors in Uzbekistan.

The AIIB president also commended the active involvement of neighboring Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan in promoting regional connectivity and cooperation. He expressed optimism about ongoing projects in Uzbekistan and the wider region, focusing on modernizing infrastructure and creating more inclusive economies.

AIIB’s first annual meeting of the Board of Governors in Central Asia is themed “Building Resilient Infrastructure for All” and is set to take place on September 25-26, 2024, in Samarkand. The event will feature over 25 panel discussions covering topics like infrastructure financing, climate resilience, sustainable development, and digital transformation in infrastructure projects.
