Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Law has received 65% public support, according to a recent survey. Conducted by four research agencies, the survey of 1005 adults across the country showed that 65% supported the law, while 24% opposed it. Even in regions traditionally deemed strongholds of the opposition party, such as Daegu, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do, 58% supported the law. The only age group where support was lower than opposition was among those 70 years and older.
The National Assembly passed the Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Law on the 19th, targeting the investigation of alleged stock price manipulation and interference in nominations involving Kim Geon-hee. President Yoon is expected to exercise his right to veto the bill soon.
Moreover, 47% of respondents viewed the investigation into the family of former President Moon Jae-in as “politically motivated,” while 37% saw it as a legitimate anti-corruption measure. Approval ratings for President Yoon’s performance hit a record low of 25%, with 69% disapproving. This dissatisfaction was consistent across all regions and age groups except for those in their 70s.
