World leaders urge peace, warn against full-scale war over Lebanon

World leaders gathered at the United Nations to address the escalating crisis in Lebanon, urging Israel to avoid full-scale war. The UN General Assembly convened after Lebanese authorities reported hundreds of casualties, including children, from Israeli airstrikes.

US President Joe Biden emphasized the necessity of a diplomatic solution to restore security and allow residents to return home safely. However, Lebanon’s foreign minister expressed skepticism, noting the increasing number of displaced individuals.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of Lebanon being on the brink of further escalation, while Israel’s ambassador emphasized their reluctance towards a ground invasion.

Efforts to negotiate ceasefires in Gaza also faced obstacles, with leaders pushing for an end to the ongoing conflict. Calls for peace and mediation were echoed by various countries, while critiquing Israel’s actions and the UN’s response.

The crisis in Lebanon and Gaza highlighted the need for immediate action and cooperation, as the world faces multiple crises with deep divisions. The meeting also addressed other international conflicts, emphasizing the importance of peacekeeping efforts.
