The U.K. Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, is focused on bolstering Ukraine’s position in its conflict against Russia as the winter months approach. While discussions on using British precision weapons inside Russia are ongoing, the supply of ballistic missiles to Moscow by Iran has escalated tensions. President Zelensky has sought authorization for using Storm Shadow missiles and ATACMS, but a decision was postponed by U.S. President Biden and British Prime Minister Starmer. Lammy emphasized the importance of positioning Ukraine strongly without giving Russia an advantage. The U.K. has pledged significant support, including funds for military and non-military assistance, totaling billions of pounds.
Lammy’s remarks, made at the U.N. General Assembly, followed his condemnation of Russia’s violations of international law and targeting of civilian infrastructure at the U.N. Security Council. Ukraine’s aim to join NATO was confirmed by Andriy Yermak, the head of the Presidential Office, during a recent visit to the U.S. The ongoing efforts highlight the international support Ukraine is receiving in its struggle against Russian aggression.
