A delegation from the United Arab Emirates’ state-owned TAQA, led by CEO Afif Saif Al Yafei, reaffirmed its interest in participating in the GSI Cyprus-Greece electricity interconnection project. They met with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides in New York during the United Nations General Assembly.
Cyprus’ government spokesman mentioned that TAQA had signed a memorandum of understanding with Cyprus and Greece’s power transmission operator in December 2023. The parties have been exploring TAQA’s involvement in the project through various meetings.
The meeting in New York discussed ways to enhance and expedite cooperation between Cyprus and TAQA. This comes after Christodoulides’ visit to the UAE where agreements to strengthen cooperation were made, particularly in energy-related fields.
