Man Indicted for Attempted Assassination of Donald Trump
A man accused of staking out former President Donald Trump’s Florida golf course with a rifle has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Miami for the attempted assassination of a political candidate, US federal prosecutors revealed. The suspect, Ryan Routh, 58, pointed a rifle through a fence at Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, while Trump was on the premises. Routh now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized that violence against political figures will not be tolerated, and those responsible will be held accountable. Routh, who has not entered a plea, remains in jail as he awaits trial.
Alleged Threats by Iran
In a separate development, the Trump campaign disclosed that US intelligence officials briefed Trump on purported threats from Iran to assassinate him. The campaign stated that efforts were being made to safeguard Trump and ensure the integrity of the elections amid heightened Iranian threats.
Iran has denied allegations of meddling in US affairs.
