SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan, September 25. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) held its opening ceremony for the annual meeting of the Board of Governors in Samarkand, marking the first event of its kind in Central Asia. The theme of the meeting is focused on “Building Sustainable Infrastructure for All”.
During the ceremony, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and AIIB President Jin Lunq delivered speeches emphasizing the importance of cooperation and the impact of AIIB projects in Uzbekistan. Mirziyoyev highlighted the positive contributions of AIIB projects to achieving Sustainable Development Goals, with $3 billion invested in various infrastructure projects.
The AIIB President expressed the bank’s commitment to cooperation with Uzbekistan and mentioned upcoming projects totaling $4 billion over the next three years. The event also featured speeches from AIIB co-chairs, highlighting collaborative efforts in areas like renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure.
AIIB, a multilateral development bank dedicated to financing eco-friendly infrastructure projects, focuses on promoting regional connectivity and economic growth in Central Asia and beyond. With 109 member countries, AIIB continues to support sustainable development and cross-border connections.
