Russia’s Stand Against Childfree Ideology
The Russian government is taking a firm stance against the promotion of childfree ideology. They plan to outlaw any form of propaganda that encourages individuals to consciously choose not to have children, whether it be through media, the internet, cinema, or advertising.
The bill, initiated by State Duma Committee on Education member Elvira Aitkulova, aims to protect traditional family values by discouraging the promotion of childfree views. Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko supports the bill, claiming that the childfree ideology is detrimental to society.
If passed, the bill would impose fines for individuals, officials, and legal entities engaging in childfree propaganda. The government commission has backed the bill, emphasizing the need to define the concept of “refusal to have children” more clearly to avoid misunderstandings.
With Russia facing a declining birth rate, this measure is seen as a way to uphold family values and encourage population growth. The government hopes to protect the sanctity of motherhood and fatherhood by curbing the spread of childfree ideology.
