The House of Representatives is set to host a security summit to address the escalating attacks by gunmen in Nigeria. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced this initiative during a recent plenary session, praising security forces for their recent victories against terrorists in the country.
The summit, scheduled for the final quarter of the year, will focus on legislative reforms to fortify security institutions, enhance collaboration between agencies, and utilize intelligence to combat insurgency and other threats. Additionally, it will explore strategies for community policing, border security, and leveraging technology for national defense.
Despite ongoing security challenges, Abbas highlighted the military’s success in neutralizing over 150 terrorists and major bandit leaders. He emphasized the importance of unity between the legislative and executive branches in delivering democracy’s benefits to Nigerians.
Before the recess, the House made substantial legislative progress, passing critical bills and conducting oversight activities that positively impacted citizens’ lives. Looking ahead, their focus will be on economic reforms, youth empowerment, healthcare, infrastructure, and education.
