Railway workers set to strike Thursday for safety demands.

Railway workers in Greece are set to hold a 24-hour strike on Thursday as a protest against the government’s lack of action in improving safety measures following a fatal train crash in 2023.

The strike, approved by the courts, will impact Hellenic Train services nationwide, except for Athens metro Line 3 which will operate normally. The workers are calling for better safety protocols, updated trains, enhanced training, and increased staff.

The unions argue that Hellenic Train needs to invest in a safer and more efficient transport system along with improved working conditions. Emergency staff will be deployed to minimize disruptions during the strike.

Following the court’s decision upholding their right to strike, the unions plan to meet with Hellenic Train management to establish a timeline for implementing the necessary changes.
