Heavy rains in Mumbai prompt closure of educational institutions
Mumbai, Maharashtra: As heavy rains pummel Mumbai and surrounding areas, the State Education Minister, Deepak Kesarkar, announced the closure of all educational institutions on Thursday to ensure the safety of students. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert, predicting extremely heavy rainfall until Thursday morning. The city is grappling with waterlogging, traffic snarls, and disruptions, prompting authorities to advise residents to stay indoors. The Central Railway line, a vital mode of transport, has been severely affected, with delays and cancellations. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued warnings, urging citizens to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel. The civic body is working in coordination with railway authorities to manage the situation. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and transport advisories to navigate the challenges posed by the relentless downpour.
