Japan’s Defense Minister Minoru Kihara expressed serious concerns over recent airspace violations by China and Russia, along with other military activities near Japan. The Russian military patrol plane flew over the Sea of Japan, prompting Japan’s Air Self-Defense Force to take action with a signal flare. Additionally, a Chinese military spy plane breached Japanese airspace in the East China Sea.
Kihara emphasized the urgent need to address these repeated incidents, especially as eight Chinese and Russian naval vessels sailed through the Soya Strait. Japan remains vigilant and will continue monitoring and responding to the military activities of China and Russia.
In light of the escalating tensions and strengthened military cooperation between China and Russia, Japan, in partnership with the United States, is taking a proactive stance to safeguard its security. The use of a signal flare against the Russian plane was deemed necessary, reflecting Japan’s commitment to protecting its airspace against potential threats.
