Ethiopia Raises Alarm on Weapons Influx to Somalia, Heightening Regional Tensions

Ethiopia has raised alarms about recent arms shipments to Somalia, expressing concerns about potential regional destabilization. Foreign Minister Taye Astke Selassie warned of the risk of these weapons falling into the hands of terrorists, reigniting tensions in the Horn of Africa.

The complex dynamics in the region, characterized by historical disputes and military interventions between Ethiopia and Somalia, have been further complicated by the situation. Ethiopian troops are already in Somalia, battling al-Shabaab as part of ATMIS.

Egypt’s arms deliveries to Somalia, including heavy weaponry unloaded from warships, have escalated tensions. Ethiopia views the growing Egyptian military presence near its borders as a security threat.
