Enugu Villagers Protest Imposition of Monarch and Union President

The people of Enu Agu Autonomous Community in Akpugo, Enugu State, are in uproar over the alleged recognition of Mr. Sylvester Nnaji as their traditional ruler. They marched to the state House of Assembly and Government House, demanding the nullification of Nnaji’s recognition. The community leaders highlighted that the process was flawed and urged Governor Peter Mba to intervene for justice and equity.

The controversy arose after Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi created the Enu Agu Autonomous Community in May 2023. The community had not yet established its town union or traditional ruler selection process, leading to confusion. Some individuals, including Nnaji, presented themselves as leaders without community consent.

Supporters of Nnaji defended his recognition, claiming the protesters were hired to create chaos. However, the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly assured the community of a peaceful resolution. The protesters remained peaceful and expressed their desire for authentic leadership representation.
