Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the Chinese government’s ongoing commitment to respecting and protecting human rights during a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, discussed the complex challenges facing global human rights governance and urged the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to uphold multilateralism and engage in fair and constructive dialogue with all nations.
Wang criticized the politicization of human rights by certain countries and reiterated China’s readiness to collaborate with the OHCHR to advance international human rights standards. Turk expressed willingness to enhance dialogue and cooperation with China for mutual understanding and progress in human rights issues.
