In court, the jury heard that Smylie was searching Carly’s room for drugs when Carly entered and shot her mother three times with a .357 Magnum. The surveillance video captures the shots and the final screams of the desperate mother.

Carly then attempted to lure her stepfather, the partner of her late mother, into a death trap. Texting from her dead mother’s phone in the kitchen surrounded by the family dogs, she casually wrote, “When are you coming home, sweetie?”
