Boycott of 2024/25 Budget Debated in Parliament

South Sudan Tables Draft Budget for 2024/2025

South Sudan’s Ministry of Finance and Planning presented the draft budget for 2024/2025 in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly. The budget, totaling SSP4.1 trillion, aims to revive the economy with a focus on various sectors.

The highest allocation of 19% will go towards wages and salaries, amounting to SSP773.8 billion. Additionally, 15% will be allocated for salary arrears, 10% for goods and services, and allocation to states and administrative areas.

The Finance and Planning Minister outlined specific policies for the budget implementation, including raising revenue collection targets and strengthening tax administration.

Despite some opposition and concerns about previous budget implementation, the government aims to cover the fiscal deficit through various measures such as oil exports, exchange rates realignment, grants, borrowing, and expenditure rationalization.

As South Sudan grapples with inflation and economic challenges, the government faces pressure to address public needs and ensure transparency and accountability in budget spending.
