In an effort to improve solid waste management activities in Bengaluru, the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd (BSWML) has devised a comprehensive action plan amounting to Rs 1,085 crore. The BBMP will provide the necessary funds as BSWML lacks independent financial resources. Despite BBMP’s initial budget allocation of Rs 1,200 crore for 2024-25, a reduction of Rs 115 crore has been noted.
Of the total funds, Rs 463 crore has been earmarked for door-to-door waste collection and transportation, with the remainder allocated to maintaining waste-processing plants, landfill sites, and leachate treatment plants. The action plan has been approved at the BSWML level but awaits government consent for finalization.
Chief General Manager (Technical) at BSWML, Basavaraj Kabade, stated that further details will be shared upon receiving approval. However, concerns have been raised regarding the impact of reduced grants on payments to garbage contractors unless the deducted amount is released by the end of the fiscal year. Stay tuned for updates on this crucial waste management initiative.
