Africa’s richest man says dream of buying Arsenal is dead

Aliko Dangote

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, had to abandon his dream of buying Arsenal Football Club due to the increasing value of the club and his focus on completing the continent’s largest oil refinery. Dangote, a devoted fan of the London team, had expressed interest in acquiring Arsenal after finishing his massive refinery in Nigeria.

However, with the refinery now operational, Dangote acknowledged that he missed the opportunity to purchase the club at a more affordable price. Despite not being able to fulfill his sporting ambition, he believes completing the refinery project was the right decision for Nigeria’s economy, aiming to reduce the country’s dependency on imported fuel and cut down on costly subsidies.

Dangote’s commitment to Arsenal remains unwavering, even as he acknowledges financial constraints in pursuing ownership. With the refinery in full swing, he looks forward to supporting the Gunners in their pursuit of a Premier League title under manager Mikel Arteta.
