A Korean businessperson, Mr. K, was kidnapped by a local criminal organization in Lima, Peru, but was safely rescued the next day. According to Andina, a Peruvian news agency, the local police rescued the kidnapped Korean after a pursuit and arrested three suspects involved in the abduction.
On the day of the kidnapping, Mr. K’s company employee called his mobile phone, which was answered by an unknown person, leading Mr. K’s family to report the incident to the local police. The South Korean Embassy in Peru provided necessary consular assistance in coordination with local authorities and the victim’s family immediately after receiving the kidnapping report.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs activated the Overseas Korean Protection Headquarters and held a meeting to discuss safety measures for Korean citizens abroad.
