Korea and Cuba Hold First Foreign Minister Meeting Since Establishment of Diplomatic Relations

Korea and Cuba recently held their first foreign minister meeting since establishing diplomatic relations in February. Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul met with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly high-level meetings.

While the details of the meeting were not disclosed, it is believed that the close ties between Cuba and North Korea might have factored into the decision to keep the discussions private. The two countries are working towards opening embassies in Seoul and Havana, with the goal of establishing diplomatic missions by the end of the year.

The establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Cuba, two countries with strong historical ties to North Korea, garnered significant attention. The move signifies a new chapter in their relationship, as they work towards deepening cooperation and strengthening ties.
