UN Urges Civilian Protection After Israel Attacks Lebanon – Global News

The conflict between Israel and Lebanon has led to the deadliest day of violence in years, with at least 492 people killed, including 35 children. The UN human rights office has called for the protection of civilians and emphasized the need for compliance with international humanitarian law. Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported that thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes due to Israeli airstrikes.

Shelters have been set up in schools to accommodate those displaced by the violence, but the Lebanese government fears that more assistance will be needed as the situation escalates. With an already struggling economy, Lebanon faces additional challenges as the number of displaced people grows.

The UN estimates that approximately 150,000 people living near the border have been directly affected by the violence. Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad provided an updated death toll, with 558 fatalities and 1,835 wounded in the recent attacks.
