Keir Starmer’s “Sausage” Slip-Up at Labour Party Conference
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made headlines at the Labour Party’s annual conference by mistakenly calling for the return of “sausages” from Gaza instead of “hostages.” The slip of the tongue during his speech in Liverpool quickly went viral online, with media outlets humorously highlighting the blunder.
Despite the gaffe, Starmer addressed key issues, including calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a return to a two-state solution. He also urged for restraint along the Israel-Lebanon border amid rising tensions with Hezbollah.
During his speech, a protester interrupted to ask about helping children in Gaza. Starmer, who replaced Jeremy Corbyn as a pro-Palestinian advocate, emphasized the party’s transformation and Labour’s current government status, earning applause as security removed the protester.
Corbyn’s controversial stance on Israel’s actions in Gaza and refusal to condemn Hamas as a terrorist group led to Labour’s defeat in the 2019 election against the Conservatives.
