Qatari Emir Calls for Ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon
The emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, delivered a powerful speech at the UN General Assembly, urging for an end to the Israeli war against Gaza and Lebanon. He emphasized the importance of continuing mediation efforts until a permanent ceasefire is reached, referring to it as a strategic political choice at both regional and international levels.
Al Thani expressed his commitment to working with partners to secure the release of prisoners, pursue a just solution based on international resolutions, and ensure the Palestinian people’s rights, including the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Despite facing challenges and obstruction attempts, Al Thani affirmed Qatar’s dedication to peaceful conflict resolution. He criticized the Israeli government, stating that there is currently no partner for peace and described their actions as a form of genocide.
The 79th UN General Assembly session will continue through September 30. Israel’s offensive on Gaza has resulted in numerous casualties and displacement, drawing accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice.
