Volunteer Healthcare Workers Rally in Morocco to Aid Gaza
Amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza, 120 healthcare workers in Morocco are preparing to volunteer in the war-torn region. They are calling on the Moroccan government to facilitate their assistance to the over 200,000 injured in Gaza.
Recently, dozens of doctors gathered in Rabat to demand a streamlined process for volunteering in Gaza. They urged the authorities to establish a field hospital in Gaza and denounced the country’s normalization with Israel, citing the targeting of civilians, healthcare workers, and hospitals by the Israeli army.
Since October 7, 2023, over 310 Palestinian healthcare workers have been detained by Israeli forces, leading to the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system. The Israeli army has also targeted numerous health institutions and ambulances. A Human Rights Watch report highlighted serious allegations of torture and denial of medical care faced by healthcare workers in Gaza.
Despite maintaining ties with Israel, Morocco insists it is committed to the Palestinian cause. However, local pro-Palestine groups advocate for the severance of ties with Israel. In October, Islamists and leftist parties plan to march to commemorate the ongoing war in Gaza and urge Rabat to take a stronger stance against Israel.
