Makuei and Gen. Manyang reconcile Bor communities

The recent mediation efforts by Minister Michael Makuei Lueth and Senior Presidential Advisor Gen. Kuol Manyang Juuk in Bor County’s Konyang Payam have successfully resolved a long-standing dispute that led to violent clashes and loss of life. The conflict, rooted in the naming rights of a village along the River Nile, pitted different clans against each other, resulting in significant tension and violence.

After a court ruling exacerbated community tensions, the government officials intervened to address the underlying issues and bring about reconciliation. Their visit to Konyang Payam aimed at calming the situation and fostering peace among the different factions.

The High Court’s decision in May 2021 marked a significant step towards justice, holding 78 defendants accountable for their roles in the violence and ordering compensation for the victims’ families. The joint efforts by Makuei and Manyang are viewed as crucial in establishing lasting peace and unity in the region, as they engage with the local population to prevent further conflicts.

With hopes for a brighter future in Konyang Payam, the resolution of this longstanding dispute serves as a testament to the power of dialogue and mediation in building harmonious communities.
