Landlord, 72, to face North West court for tenant’s murder

An elderly property owner is set to appear in a North West court following the murder of a tenant over the weekend. The incident took place on a plot near Hartbeespoort Dam, where the 72-year-old landlord allegedly shot his 66-year-old tenant after an argument over utilities.

The victim was found with gunshot wounds to his upper body and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The suspect fled the scene but was later arrested in an intelligence-driven operation. A firearm was recovered and will undergo ballistic testing.

The landlord is due to face a murder charge in the Brits magistrate’s court. North West police commissioner Lt-Gen Sello Kwena praised the police for swiftly apprehending the suspect. The case has shocked the community and raised concerns about conflicts between landlords and tenants.

Authorities are urging property owners to seek peaceful resolutions and handle disputes responsibly to prevent such tragic incidents. The court proceedings on Wednesday will shed more light on the details of this unfortunate event.
