Islamic Council takes back assets in Nimule due to internal issues

The Islamic council in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State has successfully reclaimed their assets in the border town of Nimule in Magwi County after facing numerous difficulties. Last month, a committee headed by Sheikh Hassen Ismail Loromo was formed to recover assets belonging to Muslims in Torit, Nimule, and Kapoeta with government assistance.

The committee began work on 28 August to reclaim assets in Nimule Town, including a piece of land taken over by telecom companies and a fuel station. Despite facing challenges, the committee managed to retrieve important documents and educate squatters about the Islamic Council.

Sheikh Juma Laku Samuel revealed that there are still disputes over the land and accused some Muslims in Torit of hiding documents for personal gain. However, the committee has made progress in managing assets for the future development of Muslims in the state.

Sheikh Loromo confirmed the challenges faced in Nimule but stated that communication with the new committee is ongoing, and progress is being made. The successful recovery of assets highlights the importance of proper management and protection of assets belonging to the Muslim Community in South Sudan.
