Islamabad police bans social media use without permission – Pakistan

Islamabad Police Personnel Barred from Social Media Usage Without Permission

Islamabad police personnel have been forbidden from expressing opinions or sharing content on social media platforms without prior approval, as reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

The Inspector General of Police (IG) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi issued a memorandum instructing officers to refrain from speaking in official capacity at public forums, publishing articles in print media, or making official statements on social media without permission. Additionally, officers were prohibited from taking photos or videos in police uniform for personal promotion.

The directive also prohibits the uploading of secret or official documents on social media and sharing personal, political, or religious views. Only the Public Relations Branch of the Central Police Office (CPO) is authorized to handle official police activities on social media.

To highlight positive departmental activities on social media, officers must obtain permission from the DIG headquarters and the public relations branch. Unit heads are tasked with monitoring the social media activities of their divisions and ensuring compliance with the policy.

Violations will result in strict departmental action, with the policy remaining in effect until further notice.
