A passionate demonstration calling on the Government to pass the Occupied Territories Bill took place outside Leinster House today. The event, organized by South Kerry Friends of Palestine, saw participants completing an 11-day relay walk from Co Kerry to collect 40,000 signatures in support of the bill.
Traffic was diverted from Molesworth Street as protesters listened to speakers, including independent Senator Frances Black, who authored the bill. The legislation aims to prohibit the importation and sale of goods from illegal settlements in the West Bank and Gaza.
Senator Black emphasized the need for Ireland to uphold international human rights standards, stating, “It is about international law and human rights, so we have to pass the bill.” South Kerry walker Breandán Ó Caoimh highlighted the importance of using economic leverage to support the cause.
The demonstration was a powerful display of solidarity and determination, urging the Government to take action in alignment with global principles of justice and equality.
