Following the tragic Creeslough explosion in October 2022, several families who lost loved ones are calling for a public inquiry into the incident. The explosion claimed the lives of four men, three women, and three children, sparking calls for an independent investigation.
Phoenix Law, representing the majority of the families, has formally written to Minister for Justice Helen McEntee requesting a public inquiry or commission of investigation. The families seek answers to the circumstances surrounding the explosion, which currently remains under gardaí investigation.
The families’ solicitor, Darragh Mackin, highlighted the need for an independent investigation to ensure accountability and prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. The families are enduring unimaginable pain and suffering, unable to grieve until they know the truth.
An independent investigation separate from the criminal process is essential, similar to the Grenfell inquiry in London. The families eagerly await a response from the Minister for Justice to provide them with the closure and answers they seek.
