Interpol will now have to decide whether to issue a red alert against the Bolivarian leader

An Argentine court ordered on Monday the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello for their involvement in detaining, kidnapping, and torturing people, particularly after the disputed July 28 elections. Over 30 Chavista leaders are also included in the arrest orders.

The court applied universal jurisdiction in cases of human rights violations, regardless of location or nationality, to issue international arrest warrants to Interpol. The decision is expected to bring attention to the crimes against humanity committed by the Maduro regime, as stated by lawyer Tomás Farini Duggan and Buenos Aires City Security Minister Waldo Wolff.

The ruling, based on testimonies from Venezuelan refugees in Argentina, confirms the systematic repression in Venezuela since 2014. The court emphasized the need for accountability and justice for the victims of torture, disappearances, and persecution by the Venezuelan government.
